Day 1 | La Spezia Arrival in La Spezia. Accommodation at the selected Hotel located in the city centre. Free Time to explore the downtown, the waterfront and its dock with the typical red lighthouse, the Morin promenade, the modern port Mirabello, the narrow alleys called "caruggi" and some squares, like Brin square with the fountain of Bigigeo and Verdi square with the post office building and the installations by the French artist Daniel Buren. Overnight. |
Day 2 | La Spezia - The Cinque Terre Spend a full day to discover the beauty of the Cinque Terre with a private guide: five picturesque hamlets in the Ligurian coast, dotted with pastel houses nestled amid terraced hills that drop to the jade and lapis waters of the Mediterranean Sea. After breakfast meet the guide and start the excursion to Riomaggiore, Vernazza and Monterosso. You can have a tasteful lunch in Monterosso before continuing by your own to Manarola. Back to La Spezia by train. Overnight. |
Day 3 | La Spezia - The Lunigiana - Wine tasting After breakfast proceed to the Lunigiana area, an off beaten path area in Northern Tuscany at 30 minutes away from Cinque Terre, between Liguria and Tuscany. It is a land rich in history and things to do: fascinating castles, romanesque Churches, medieval villages. The first stop will be in Pontremoli known for its romanesque Church Of St. George and Malaspina castle. Afterwards continue to Villafranca, a centre of traditional rural culture. It has an interesting ethnographical museum housed in old Fifteenth-century mills. In the afternoon you will visit the winery Lunae, historical Vermentino and Colli Di Luni Doc producer in Eastern Liguria near the Apuan Alps and taste local wines. Back to La Spezia. Overnight.

Day 4 | La Spezia - Carrara marble caves tour - pork lard tasting Breakfast at the hotel. Check out. Move towards Carrara: a full day at your disposal to explore the quarry where the marble was sourced for Michaelangelo's David. Cave di Marmo is a sprawling series of white marble caves and quarries stretching from Carrara into the surrounding mountains. You will enjoy a guided group tour by jeep (2 hrs) and will taste "lardo di colonnata", a charcuterie product obtained from the fat of the topside section of pork and it is made in the small village of Colonnata.
